Also On the docket last night was a representative from Wellington Lakeside Ltd. ,that is part of the Kaitlin group, requesting rezoning of a property located on Loyalist Parkway at the west end of Wellington. Rezoning is requested to accommodate the proposed 56 unit development consisting of condominium townhouses and single residential units. Numerous residents from Skiff Cove voiced their concerns regarding traffic, water supply, privacy invasion and they felt that this proposal is premature in light of other developments planned for the immediate area. Staff will review the proposal with the developer.

Quinte West will see increases in municipal insurance costs in 2025. Council voted to approve a staff recommendation to approve an insurance agreement with broker BFL Canada at its meeting on Wednesday. This will result in a jump of almost six-per cent in insurance rates from 1.68 million in 2024 to $1.78 million this year. That is lower than the 12.6-per cent increase from 2023 to 2024. Deductibles will be hiked to $250,000 from $100,000 in 2024.

Quinte West Councillor Duncan Armstrong was not required to apologize, despite an Integrity Commissioner’s report recommending such. At council on Wednesday evening, Tony Fleming’s report was before council recommending an apology by the Trenton ward councillor, related to a gesture he made to a member of the public at a November 6, 2024 meeting. Fleming’s report indicated that Armstrong pointed his finger at Ed Santos in council chambers. The gesture appeared as if he was firing a gun. Fleming said this gesture violated the Code of Conduct. In regards to the gesture, Armstrong told the commissioner he meant no ill will toward Santos.

Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-high 54 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Utah Jazz 123-114 on Wednesday night. Gilgeous-Alexander made 17 of 35 field goals and 17 of 18 free throws to surpass his previous career best of 45 points.
