Cannabis use may double the risk of dying from heart disease and increase the risk of stroke by 20% according to a recent study. Senior author Dr. Émilie Jouanjus, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toulouse, France, discusses the research which led to these conclusions. 

Jeanette Arsenault’s song, “This is My Canada/Mon Cher Canada,” has surpassed 500 million views on Youtube. Jeanette reveals what prompted her to write the song and how it has been received world-wide.  

Tim Snyder, Executive Director of Homegrown National Park, explains how to make a mosquito bucket which reduces the mosquito population in an affordable way without harming pollinators, pets, or people. www.mosquitobucketchallenge.org

After nearly 50 years of supporting older adults in Prince Edward County, Community Care For Seniors has announced its most ambitious initiative yet – the establishment of a permanent County Senior Centre at 74 King St. in Picton. CCFS coordinator, Laura McGugan, will talk about the 1.2 million dollar campaign and why the County Senior Centre matters.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Barinder Gill, the Executive Director of the Prince Edward Family Health Team will be in our studio to make an important announcement about health care in Prince Edward County.  Join us to learn more.

CONSUMERISM 

Canadian documentaries and productions in film, television, national museums and advertising require stills, footage and information to tell their stories. As part of our ongoing Occupations of Interest series, we speak with Elspeth Domville, a journalist and archive producer, researcher, and rights clearance specialist who spent over 25 years of her career working in these areas. Elspeth just returned from attending the Federation of Commercial Audiovisual Libraries international awards in London, England where she was one of the nominees for best international researcher of the year for her contributions to the film “The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal.”

Humans like to travel and — surprisingly — so do large mammals, like Alice the moose. She made her way from the Adirondacks in New York state, across the St. Lawrence and even the 401, up to Algonquin Park, along what’s known as a wildlife corridor. Emily Conger of the Algonquin to Adirondacks Collaborative talks to Pamela Stagg about Alice, the importance of wildlife corridors, and working on two sides of the Canada/US border.

COUNTY GROWS

Cheryl McLellan speaks with Matt Rabbie of Sunset Farms and cabins. Matt is part the 4th generation on his family farm on which they raise sheep, goats, and a small herd of beef cattle.  They also grow flowers and vegetables in greenhouses and in the fields. . Their produce and flowers are sold at their road side stand and at a variety of markets in and beyond the county. 

COUNTY PROFILE

Ian Coombes could record an original piece of music or a classical Medieval melody using an instrument of his own making while photographing the process as he carves the woodwork of a  sailing vessel that he also has constructed while building a home for spiders or even dinosaurs at a museum.
