The County and 200 writers from away have been guests on CWCR.

Travel back in time with excerpts from the first show with Alan Gratias, John Mather, and Deb Simpson. Terry Fallis was the first author interviewed for CWCR and he returns with his latest novel, The Marionette. Flashback to November 2014 and Terry’s novel, No Relation, and an interview with the County’s Lyndon B. Johnston. Celebrate 11 years of celebrating the written word!

TOPICAL ISSUES & CURRENT EVENTS

Andrew Forbes, author of several books about baseball including The Utility of Boredom and Field Work, offers his take on the Blue Jays vs Dodgers series. 

The Royal Hotel received Architectural Conservancy Ontario’s Paul Obermann Award for Adaptive Reuse. In excerpts from County FM interviews, owner Greg Sorbara reflects on the obstacles overcome to restore and construct a Victorian-era hotel. General Manager Sol Korngold discusses the hotel’s place in the community and the amenities that contribute to its award-winning reputation. 

Steve Burr of the South Shore Joint Initiative and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada explains why he believes an area in the County should be designated as a Dark Sky Preserve.

SERVICES 

Statistics from Transport Canada show that drivers over 70 are statistically more vulnerable to be collisions due to age-related health changes — mainly slower reaction times, vision issues, and cognitive decline. As a result, provinces are implementing stricter procedures for aging adults to renew driver’s licenses. Educator, David Fox joins us in-studio to talk about the programming at 55 Alive to help those aged 55 plus update their driving skills. 

HEALTH & WELLNESS 

In our monthly visit with Nutritionist and Chef Rachel Bies, we learn how we can train our taste buds to crave less salt and sugar — and how to make healthy food taste amazing! Rachel is going to share practical tips packed with flavour to make nutritious something we can look forward to!

CONSUMERISM 

In her monthly visit to our studio, professional dog trainer and owner of Fearless Tails, Tasha Shaw-Verbic will discuss the steps we can take to keep our pets safe on Halloween’s spooky night! Tasha will also talk about two charitable organizations, Safe Pet Ontario and Elder Dog Canada, which help people keep their pets longer.

THE COUNTY NATURALLY

We lost Myrna Wood on September 26th. She was small in stature, but a giant when it came to conservation in Prince Edward County. She was key in initiatives such as the creation of  The Spring Birding Festival, Prince Edward County Field Naturalists, the Important Bird Area (now Key Biodiversity Area), and the South Shore joint Initiative. Terry Sprague and Amy Bodman — who both worked closely with Myrna — will offer their remembrances of the woman who was their colleague and their friend.

COUNTY PROFILE

In a special edition of County Profile, we’ve decided to re-broadcast JJ Johnston’s interview with one of 99.3 County FM’s founders, John Hopper. John and Dianne Hopper have been County residents since moving here in 2012 from North Bay, where they had owned and operated Hopper Buick GMC for 48 years. On arrival in the County, John put his experience in community service and fundraising to work leading the finance efforts to put 99.3 on the air.  He also served on the station’s board for two years and graciously agreed to serve as Honorary Chair for Radiothon 2021. His heartfelt appreciation of the station was a gift to community radio, John would say “County FM stitches the fabric of our community together”.

Wellington Dukes Play by Play

The Dukes have a break in terms of their weekend away game schedule. The next play by play broadcast is Sat Nov 8th at 4pm vs Haliburton.

Cabaret at the Cape

Come to the Cabaret!  Berlin’s famous Kit Kat Club is brought to life at The Cape in Picton by Shatterbox Theatre November 5th – 28th. Only 100 seats available for each of the 16 performances. They are going fast so book early to avoid missing this production.  The most successful musical of all time features the songs “Wiilkommon”, “Don’t Tell Mama”, “Mein Herr”, “Maybe This Time”, “Money”, and the title number, “Cabaret”. Firelight Lantern Festival 2025

99.3 County FM invites you to this cherished PEC tradition, organised by The Department of Illumination. Two magical evenings of arts and music at the Crystal Palace in Picton, Ontario.
