Canada is starting a dispute resolution process against Stellantis after the automaker said last month that it’s moving jobs to the U.S.
Industry Minister Mélanie Joly told a parliamentary committee Monday Ottawa wants to recover some of the billions it has committed to Stellantis.
Joly said Stellantis moving production of the Jeep Compass from Brampton, Ont., to Illinois is a violation of a contract.

It’s still unclear if the minority government Liberals have drummed up the votes needed to survive a vote and avoid a Christmas election.
Carney signalled on Saturday he’s prepared to fight an election over his budget should it come to that.

In US news: their Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday on Trump’s unprecedented use of an emergency powers law to slap broad-based tariffs on imports from Canada and other major trading partners.
On social media Trump has repeatedly claimed that the Ontario government’s anti-tariff ad campaign featuring an address by the late Ronald Reagan was an attempt to interfere with the case.
Many billions of dollars are at stake. If the administration loses in the Supreme Court, it may have to return tariffs paid by importers since the spring and will forgo a source of revenue that Trump has claimed is making America rich again.
Under the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to tax or tariff, unless it passes a law that gives the president that authority.
