Community Radio Delivers Holiday Cheer to Homes Across the County on Christmas Eve!

County FM began this annual partnering with many local communities of faith during the pandemic years. Now known as Celebrate Christmas, it has become a county Christmas tradition.

Participating individuals and organizations have changed over the years, but many have been with the program from the outset. This Christmas we feature contributions from 14 local communities of faith.

Celebrate Christmas answers the question: What do the faithful do when “there’s no room at the inn?” – While many people enjoy and are able to attend services in person or stream live services, some cannot because they lack transportation, have health issues, or don’t have access to online technology.

This ongoing community service was initiated by Rev. Kathy Duggan. During the shut down during Covid, Rev. Duggan approached 99.3 County FM, the community radio station in Prince Edward County, and proposed a program of Christmas scripture readings and carols to be broadcast on the radio on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The station was eager to help. After all, everybody has a radio and Celebrate Christmas program was a way for all to enjoy the magic of Christmas.

This year, United Church minister Rev. Aaron Miechkota is co-managing the project with the support of 99.3 County FM Production Lead, Gage Broderick who helps produce and bring the various Celebrate Christmas elements together for another memorable, heart warming Christmas Eve show..

Craig Mills, General Manager of 99.3 County FM sums up what this program means to us all. “It started as a lifeline during Covid, became a treasure during the 2022 State of Emergency/winter storm, and now continues to unite us and serve those who cannot easily travel during the winter. A special thank you to Gage Broderick and Rev. Aaron Miechkota for their tremendous work on the project. The program airs on 99.3 FM and streams across Canada and around the globe @ 993CountyFM.ca.”

Celebrate Christmas is a curated combination of scripture, carols, and Christmas greetings on behalf of the participating congregations.

Celebrate Christmas airs exclusively on 99.3 County FM on Wednesday, December 24 at 8 pm and will repeat on Thursday, December 25 at noon.
The complete program will be available for replay on CountyFM’s website after the broadcast.
