If you are a local farmer and you experienced some unexpected challenges this year you may be eligible for financial assistance from the County. The Prince Edward County Municipal Agricultural Grant program is now open for applications. The County funded grant program provides grants of up to $1,250 for smaller farms and up to $2,000 for medium sized farms to overcome specific unexpected challenges. The County Foundation administers the program and details and application forms are available on The County Foundation’s website. To receive a grant you will need to apply before January 20th, 2026.

The Prince Edward County Fire Department is reminding residents that everyone has two weeks to meet new provincial rules on carbon monoxide detectors. Starting January 1st, all property owners will be required to have working carbon dioxide detectors on every level of their homes or residential buildings including the basement. A detector is also required adjacent to all sleeping areas. Failing to meet the new requirements before the start of the new year could not only affect safety it could result in a fine.

A Canadian delegation which included six MP’s was refused entry to Israel earlier today. The group had planned a fact finding mission which included meeting with displaced persons in the west bank. Israel said the group was a threat to security and public order because of ties to Islamic terrorists which the delegation has said is untrue. NDP MP Jenny Kwan said the group had officially advised the Israeli government ahead of time through the Canadian government and received approval and west bank entry visas in advance of the visit. Kwan said that there was no mention of security concerns prior to the group arriving at the border where their visas were revoked and entry was refused. No word yet on Canada’s official response.

Donald Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles is in hot water after an interview in Vanity Fair in which she says Donald Trump has an alcoholic’s personality, Vice President JD Vance is a conspiracy theorist and Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. is known as quirky Bobby. Wiles also criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the Epstein files and called Elon Musk an avowed ketamine user and an odd duck. Wiles has reacted by saying the article is a hit piece which lacks context.

And the holder of the Guiness record for most snow domes has broken his own record. German Josef Kardinal revealed that he has surpassed his 2002 record setting total of 6,100 glass globes and now has more than 11,017 in his collection. Kardinal said his oldest snow dome dates from 1889 and features the Eiffel tower. Other highlights include a snow dome featuring the sinking of the Titanic, another with Santa flying a helicopter and one shaped like a Coca Cola phone. Kardinal started his collection in 1984 when he received a snow dome as a gift. Kardinal says the thing he likes most about snow domes is that they all tell a story.

The Athol-South Marysburgh Eagles have captured the HPEDSB Intermediate Boys Volleyball District Championship. The win is their second district title this school year. The Eagles faced Foxboro in the final winning 25–17 and 25–13 for gold.

Skate Canada announced today that it will no longer host major events in Alberta because of the province’s legislation on the participation of transgender athletes in women’s sport. Skate Canada said the legislation makes it impossible for the organization to maintain its standards for inclusion. The announcement does not affect Alberta skaters who can participate in all Skate Canada programs and competitions.

The WNBA’s Toronto Tempo unveiled their uniforms today. The white home and burgundy away jerseys were actually designed in 2024 but kept secret until today to allow time for manufacturing. The Tempo plays their first season opener in 2026.

Five Canadian teams in action in the NHL tonight. The Leafs are at home to the Blackhawks. Toronto is sitting second to last in the Atlantic Division and with more than a third of the season already gone, the leafs need to start winning to have a chance at the playoffs this year. Toronto and Chicago drop the puck at 7 pm. In other games, the Montreal Canadiens will host the Philadelphia Flyers starting at 7 pm. The Vancouver Canucks travel to New York for a 7 pm faceoff against the Rangers. The Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins get underway at 7:30 in Pittsburgh. And Calgary is in San Jose for a 10 pm start against the Sharks.
