Iran continued to fire missile and drone barrages in response to ongoing attacks from Israel and the U.S. on Thursday, as the war in the Middle East entered its sixth day.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says the government is looking at getting Canadians out of the Middle East, including asking the United Arab Emirates to use its airspace for chartered evacuation flights. Anand said as of Wednesday morning more than 2,000 Canadians in the region have requested government assistance to leave since the U.S.
and Israel attacked Iran over the weekend, sparking retaliatory missile and drone strikes in the Persian Gulf region.
In an address to Australia’s Parliament that was something of a love letter to the country and its people, Prime Minister Mark Carney implored citizens in both Commonwealth realms to draw closer together amid a breakdown in the established global order. Carney said Canada and Australia, linked by a common heritage and similar political institutions, are well positioned to partner on the challenges of our time, namely by codeveloping critical minerals and artificial intelligence and banding together on defence at a time when reliable allies are harder to come by. Carney and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, with whom he has developed a close personal rapport, inked deals on those issues but also a new “tax and investment treaty” to spur bilateral business investment.
Quinte West has released its 2025 annual public sector salary disclosure, including the “Sunshine List” of employees receiving more than $100,000 annually. Compared to 2024, the list grew by 17 people to a total of 77. The list includes 46 city employees, 18 fire employees, 11 water and wastewater employees and two library employees. At the top of the list is the Chief Administrative Officer, David Clazie, with a salary of $217,692.33. He is the only one on the list to break $200,000 in salary. The municipality’s fire chief, John Whelan, was among the top earners at $176,264.20. The
Sunshine List came in in 1996 and the amount has not changed in nearly 30 years. Making $100,000 then would be the equivalent of about $186,000 in 2026.
