The County will be starting consultations for the development of the Community Safety and Well-being Plan for 2027-2030. The plan is intended to make life safer, healthier, and more supportive for everyone, by bringing local organizations, service providers, and residents together to prevent problems before they happen and to make sure people get the right help at the right time. The plan will include basic needs, mental health, education, and community belonging. Residents can participate through the online Have Your Say platform, by picking up a printed survey from any library branch or Shire Hall, or by attending a public consultation.
The last in-person consultations will take place on Sunday, June 7, at 3:30 pm, in Picton Rotary Hall; on Tuesday, June 9, at 1 pm, in Wellington Highline Hall; and on Wednesday, June 10, at 10:30 am, in Sophiasburgh Town Hall, and at 1:30 pm, in North Marysburgh Town Hall. Consultation will close Friday, June 12. Council will receive the findings of the consultations in late August, and the final copy of the Plan early next year.
The County will also be hosting a public information meeting to share the plan for restoring the section of Millennium Trail affected by the Wellington trunk watermain and sanitary sewer project. The work is taking place on the Trail between Cleminson Street and Belleville Street, and should be completed early this summer. At the public meeting, municipal staff will share details about replacing trees to meet the requirements of the municipality’s Tree Management and Preservation Policy. The meeting will take place tomorrow evening from 5 – 7 in the Highline Hall at the Wellington and District Community Centre. For more information, contact David MacPherson, the County’s Manager of Engineering.
County Council will be hosting the Civic Recognition Program award ceremony this fall.

And, finally, the Affordable Housing Corporation is seeking new board members. The Corporation is a non-profit intended to help meet the affordable housing targets of the County’s Housing Plan. Reaching those housing targets is critical for improving the local economy, workforce stability, and the long-term sustainability of the community, so serving on the board is an opportunity to help guide decisions, advocate for inclusive housing solutions, and contribute to a stronger, more resilient municipality. The Corporation is seeking two County residents who possess experience and knowledge of capital fundraising, public-private partnerships, and non-conventional development agreements such as land leases. You can submit your application directly online by this Friday, June 5.
