If you plan on using the Glenora Ferry tomorrow you might want to allow more time. The ferry will be operating on a 30 minute schedule with one ferry Wednesday in order to complete required maintenance.

It was a busy long weekend for local police:

Prince Edward County OPP arrested a man in connection with several recent break ins and thefts in Prince Edward County. Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near a residence on Whattams Road Saturday. Police arrested the man and recovered several items believed to be stolen property at the scene. Further investigation linked the accused to several break-and-enter incidents in the area. A 31 year old Loyalist Township man has been been charged with breaking and entering, mischief, and possession of stolen property. Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone who has experienced a recent break and enter, theft, or is missing property and has not reported it to contact the Prince Edward County OPP. The accused is being held pending a bail hearing.

In another incident Saturday night, Belleville police responded to a hit and run involving a pedestrian. A driver struck a pedestrian crossing at Pinnacle and Victoria Streets then fled the scene at high speed. A 54 year old Belleville man was located shortly afterwards. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

And two people struck by a train near Wilkie Street in Belleville last night have died. Belleville Police have confirmed that the two individuals involved in the incident are deceased but have not released any further details.

Canada – US Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc is in Washington today for another round of trade talks. LeBlanc flew to Washington this morning and will meet with US Senators and Business Leaders. The latest activity is part of the agreement by Prime Minister Mark Carney and US President Donald Trump to intensify trade talks ahead of Trump’s tariff deadline of August 19th. The US has threatened 50% tariffs on a number of Canadian products representing about 5% of Canadian exports. While Carney has agreed to accelerate trade talks he has not ruled out retaliation if the US tariffs are imposed.

Canada has become only the second country to approve clinical trials on an mRNA vaccine for Ebola. Moderna has been authorized to test the vaccine in three Canadian cities in trials that will involve about 80 people. The vaccine is based on the mRNA technology first seen during the Covid pandemic and is aimed at the Bundibugyo Ebola virus that currently has no vaccine available. The current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has infected almost 4,000 people and caused over 1,700 deaths so far. Although the clinical trials are cause for optimism, researchers caution that a usable vaccine is still probably a year or more away.

And a Florida restaurant has come up with an unusual way to promote their business. Maurad Ali, owner of the CLASS Soiree Steakhouse in Hollywood, Florida is hosting a “Nude Dining Experience” once a month. Diners must be over 18 and purchase a ticket to be admitted. Hostess Tashaeba Hart plans to greet patrons at the door and provide them with a robe, a towel and a seat cover. She will be naked but the servers and cooking staff will remain clothed. Ali says he came up with the idea because the restaurant business is tough and you need to stand out.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is in more hot water. Former FIFA vice president Prince Ali bin Al Hussein claimed today that Infantino deliberately withheld Arab Cup prize money from the Jordanian National team to bribe the Jordanian Federation into supporting Infantino and his failed bid to take FIFA private. Infantino is facing significant fall out from that now abandoned plan and his chances of being re-elected FIFA President next March are at risk.

The Blue Jays will face former outfielder Dalton Varsho again tonight when they play the Houston Astros in game two of a three game road series. The Jays traded Varsho for right handed pitcher Spencer Arrighetti yesterday and both players joined their new teams immediately but Arrighetti is currently on the injured list. Toronto will send Trey Yesavage to the mound against Hayden Wesneski for Houston. First pitch goes out at 8:10 in Texas.

In WNBA action, the Toronto Tempo are in San Francisco to face the Golden State Valkyries tonight. Tip off for that game is at 10 pm.
