Housing sales were down in August while prices only rose slightly according to The Canadian Real Estate Association. Sales of homes across the country dropped nearly 7 % from August of 2025 while the average price of a house was up less than 1% in the same time period. And, people in BC have been wondering about what appears to be a travel trailer mounted on oil drums that has been floating in the Nicomeki River since mid August. Yesterday, the owner and builder of the unusual craft came forward to explain it. Emilio Gilpo is a retired shipbuilder. He built the craft over a six month period by himself and it is indeed made from a travel trailer attached to oil drum pontoons. Gilpo said he plans to install motors and may live on the vessel. He also said he intends to have the boat inspected and approved before using it. Gilpo said he was building it on land initially but he received a parking ticket so he had a crane put it in the water. However, he may have to move his houseboat project again to finish the project because of the number of complaints he has received.
