The Planning and Development Committee will be meeting today to consider an application at 1 Head Street for a temporary mobile restaurant. The Committee will also make a decision on two applications. Redtail Winery at 19538 Loyalist Parkway is applying for a six-unit condo, resort, restaurant, wine-production facility, vineyard, and spa. And Watermark on the Bay on Navigation Drive is applying to create 14 new lots. For more information, contact Development Services, or visit the County’s Planning Portal. You can provide comments on the County’s Planning Portal or to the County’s Planning Department. You can also participate in the meeting in-person or on Zoom by registering with the County Clerk’s office. The committee will meet tonight at 6 in Shire Hall, with a live stream on the municipality’s YouTube channel.

In other local news, the County will be hosting a meeting next Wednesday, April 22, regarding repairs to County Road 3. The project begins where the previous phase of the project ended, at address number1460, and continues to the west for just over one km., to address number 1668. The project includes ditch improvements, culvert replacements, paved shoulders, and full removal and replacement of the existing asphalt surface. The project should be finished this September, pending funding and approvals. At least one lane of traffic should be open during the work. The meeting to discuss the project is next Wednesday, April 22, from 6 – 8 pm, at the Ameliasburgh Town Hall. County staff and the project consultant will be available to answer any questions. For more information, contact Garrett Osborne, the County’s Project Manager.

In local health news, the Southeast Public Health Unit is warning about localized flooding.  Floodwaters and water ponding around wells can compromise the safety of your drinking water. The Health Unit is advising residents whose wells have been directly affected by flooding to boil their water for at least one minute at a rolling boil before consuming it, or to use an alternate safe water source until testing confirms the water is safe to drink.

And finally, in personal finance news: According to a recent report from Statistics Canada, the gap between Canada’s richest and poorest grew last year. The lowest-income households saw wages rise more slowly than average, and their investment income fell because of lower interest rates on savings. Meanwhile, the top 20 per cent of the wealth distribution accounted for almost two-thirds of Canada’s total net worth at the end of 2025, averaging $3 1/2 million per household. In contrast, the bottom 40 per cent of the wealth distribution held just three per cent of Canada’s net worth, averaging slightly more than $81,000 per household. MNP Ltd., Canada’s largest insolvency practice, responded to the new Stats Can data, saying that the rising divide can also be seen in their own recent financial survey. Almost half of Canadians are within $200 of not being able to meet their monthly spending needs. Almost a third say they already aren’t making enough to cover bills and debt payments. And nearly three quarters of Canadians say rising prices for essentials are straining their finances.

In the PWHL last night, the Vancouver Goldeneyes beat the Seattle Torrent 4 – 1. Tonight, the Toronto Sceptres visit the New York Sirens, and the Boston Fleet host the Minnesota Frost.
