Hydro One is working to restore power after severe winds caused outages across southwest, central and eastern Ontario on Tuesday. There are several outages north of the Quinte Region, including one impacting 681 customers from Stockdale to German Landing. Hydro One says the cause of the outage is under investigation and an estimated restoration time is unavailable. Further north of Bancroft in Birds Creek, 792 customers are without electricity. This has forced the closure of Birds Creek Public School. Power is expected to be restored at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Babylon Road in Prince Edward County is going to be closed temporarily to replace a failed culvert. The road closure begins on Wednesday, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The road will be closed between County Road 13 and Whattams Road. Local traffic will still be permitted and motorists are asked to approach the site with caution or avoid the construction area.
Technical problems in the London, Ont., courtroom plagued Tuesday’s proceedings at the sexual assault trial for five former world junior hockey players, forcing Justice Maria Carroccia to adjourn early after more video evidence was shown. Michael McLeod, Dillon Dubé, Cal Foote, Carter Hart and Alex Formenton — who all had NHL careers at one point — have pleaded not guilty. McLeod has also pleaded not guilty to a charge of being party to the offence, laid because the Crown alleges he encouraged and helped his teammates engage in sexual activity with the complainant without her consent. Before they were sent home Tuesday after the lunch break, jurors watched several surveillance videos taken inside Jack’s Bar and Grill. Some players went there on June 18, 2018, following a gala in the southwestern Ontario city to celebrate the world title the team won months earlier.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a pair of orders to soften the blow of his auto tariffs on Tuesday with a mix of credits and relief from other levies on materials, and his trade team touted its first deal with a foreign trading partner. The developments helped ease some investor worries about Trump’s erratic trade policies as he visited Michigan, cradle of the U.S. auto industry, just days before a fresh set of 25 per cent import taxes was set to kick in on automotive components. The trip, on the eve of his 100th day in office, comes as Americans take an increasingly dim view of Trump’s economic stewardship, with indications his tariffs will weigh on growth and could drive up inflation and unemployment.
A judge is ordering the duty-free shop at Canada’s second-busiest border crossing into receivership as it struggles to pay off millions of dollars in debt and overdue rent. In a ruling earlier this month, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice appointed a receiver for the Peace Bridge duty-free shop who is empowered to take control of the assets, oversee liquidation and repay creditors. According to a claim filed by Royal Bank of Canada in the Ontario Court of Appeal in January, Peace Bridge Duty Free Inc. is the tenant of the duty-free shop on the Ontario side of the Peace Bridge at the border between Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York. The landlord is the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority. Peace Bridge has operated the retail duty-free store for more than three decades. In normal times, the store was open 24 hours a day, every day, and employed about 90 staff.
Savior. Ungodly. Patriotic. Un-American. Great. Sad. A hundred days into his presidency, all are words Americans used to describe President Donald Trump’s performance in office. Responses run the full spectrum of possible assessments. On the positive side of the ledger in this ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll: “Excellent.” “Awesome.” “Outstanding.” “Strong.” “Best president ever.” And among the more negative comments: “Disaster.” “Chaotic.” “Appalling.” “Horrible.” “Atrocious.” “Catastrophic.” Trump has a 39% job approval rating in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates with fieldwork by Ipsos. That’s the lowest job approval rating at or near 100 days in office of any president dating back to 1945 (as far back as data are available).

Florida Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad has been suspended two playoff games for elbowing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel on Monday night.
There was no penalty on the play. Ekblad, 29, saw his second action of the playoffs on Monday night, having completed a 20-game suspension for a violation of the NHL-NHLPA’s performance-enhancing drugs policy on Saturday
