The Glenora Ferry has returned to its regular schedule, offering 15-minute service daily between the hours of 10:15 am and 7:45 pm, and every 30 minutes from 6 am and 1:15 am otherwise.
The County’s Planning and Development Committee will be meeting next Wednesday, August 19th. The committee will consider a master plan for the County’s cultural heritage resources, and update a by-law on the delegation of duties to municipal employees. You can view materials on the County’s Planning Portal or get more information from the County’s Development Services. You can also make comments on the Planning Portal or submit them to the County’s Planning Department before the meeting. You can participate in the meeting in-person or virtually by registering with the County Clerk’s office. The meeting will begin at 6 next Wednesday evening in Shire Hall with the live stream on the municipality’s YouTube channel.
The County wants to recognize champions who have made outstanding contributions toward the preservation and promotion of heritage in the community. Nominations for the County Heritage Awards are open now until August 31st at 4:30 pm. You can download the nomination form and send it to the County clerk’s office, or pick up a paper copy at Shire Hall. The recipients will be announced next February.
The County is also seeking input from residents and the business community on how future revenue from the Municipal Accommodation Tax or MAT should be used. Share your thoughts by filling out a short survey online or on paper copy available from the County. The deadline to complete the survey is this Friday, August 14, at 4 pm.
Rehabilitation work on County Road 49 has been delayed due to work visa issues, which are keeping specialized equipment and its operating crew out of the country. Despite the schedule change, the contractor still plans to complete the first two lifts of asphalt this construction season. The final surface lift will be placed next year, as originally planned. Crews will start at County Road 15 and work their way south. Culvert replacement has now advanced south of Bethesda Road.
In personal finance news: a recent Equifax Canada survey of over 1,500 Canadians revealed that over half expect to pay their balances in full each month. However, nearly a quarter of Canadians say they expect to make only minimum monthly credit card payments, which may indicate increased pressure on household finances. Forty per cent report spending more overall than they were a year ago. Almost a third are using credit and savings to manage everyday expenses, The survey suggests the financial impact may be moving beyond discretionary cutbacks and increasingly affecting the ability to cover essential expenses, preserve savings, and plan for the future.
Finally, a grocery store in Ottawa will be replaced by a Food Basics this fall, costing dozens of employees their jobs. According to Metro, the store is being converted to better meet customer needs in the area.

In MLB, the Boston Red Sox are in Toronto for a four-game series against the Blue Jays.
Toronto won 2 – 1 on Monday night and 5 – 3 last night. The final two games go tonight and tomorrow afternoon, then the New York Yankees are in Toronto for three games, with implications for wild card positioning in both series. The Jays have won 10 games in the last five series, but are still in last place in the AL East, five games below .500, and two and a half games out of a wild card spot.
In the WNBA tonight, the Toronto Tempo play the Dallas Wings in the last game on a five-game road trip. Toronto has now lost nine in a row, and sits in sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Vancouver Whitecaps are the only Canadian team of the 18 MLS teams in the 2026 Leagues Cup. Last night, the Whitecaps lost to Mexico’s Tigres 5 – 4 in penalty kicks. With no wins and only one draw in three games, Vancouver is in last place among the MLS teams.
Also in soccer, at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the semi-finals kick off this afternoon at 1 with Algeria squaring off against Malawi, and hosts Morocco against Cameroon at 4. All four semi-finalists have automatically booked their spots in next year’s Women’s World Cup.
