Donald Trump on Monday issued pardons for about 1,500 people charged over the Jan. 6 attack, hours after he was inaugurated as U.S. president for a second time. He also commuted six others’ sentences. The pardons fulfil a campaign promise Trump made to release supporters who tried to violently overturn his election defeat four years ago. Asked when he would impose his proposed trade tariffs on Canada on Mexico, Trump said, “I think we’ll do it” on Feb 1. Trump also signed a number of executive orders including withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord and the World Health Organization; a hiring freeze and a requirement that federal workers return to full-time, in-person work; rescinding orders that promoted and protected 2SLGBTQ+ people and racial minorities; adding Cuba back to the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism; and an order seeking a 75-day delay on the enforcement of a TikTok ban. Trump completed his stunning political comeback Monday when he was sworn in as the 47th U.S. president, during which he promised tariffs, deportations and a new approach to race and gender.

Ozempic was first approved to treat diabetes in Canada seven years ago. Now the largest study of its kind suggests it and other medications like it have a host of other potential health benefits beyond obesity, but could also bring increased risk of other conditions. The class of medications called GLP-1 agonists mimic the actions of a natural hormone that helps curb appetite and slows digestion. The GLP-1 medications approved by Health Canada include Ozempic and Wegovy. These drugs have become popular in the past few years thanks to their weight-loss benefits by extending how long people feel full. A study released Monday of 200,000 people in the U.S. taking GLP-1s suggested the drugs’ potential benefits extend beyond those currently recognized, such as a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

A throw from Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard on third-and-11 finally landed in the hands of receiver Jeremiah Smith late in the fourth quarter Monday, Ohio State had locked up what would be a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame for its sixth national title and first in 10 years. It was that 56-yard gain that snuffed out a feverish Notre Dame comeback and made the Buckeyes the champion of the sport’s first 12-team playoff, just as they were champions of its first four-team tournament a decade ago.
