Belleville fire crews are on the scene of an apartment fire in the West Hill area. Firefighters
responded to the 100 block of Henry Street just after 3:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The fire
was contained to one unit of the 12-plex. There are no reported injuries.
Northumberland OPP have charged an individual following an investigation into drugs at
Warkworth Institution. On October 3 of last year, a correctional officer seized approximately 15
grams of suspected illicit drugs in a cell area. Following an investigation, a warrant was issued,
and on Wednesday, a 51-year-old inmate was charged with trafficking in methamphetamines.
Tensions are high south of the border, and an FBI investigation is underway after a U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on
Wednesday. Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot in her car in a residential area of the city. A large
crowd held a candlelight vigil at the scene, which is less than two kilometres from the location
where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz blamed White
House “governance designed to generate fear, headlines and conflict” for the woman’s death.
Federal and local officials have vastly different versions of events. The Trump administration
said the woman was shot as she deliberately tried to run over the agent, but the Minneapolis
mayor said that characterization was “bullshit.”

A new review has found when people who are overweight and obese stopped taking their
weight-loss medications they regained weight faster than those who stopped a diet or exercise
program, a new review has found. Weight loss medications containing semaglutide, the active
ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, have taken off in popularity. But about half of people with
obesity on this class of medications, called glucagon-like peptide agonists or GLP-1s, stop
taking it within a year. Studies suggest that most people discontinue their use due to the high
cost and adverse gastrointestinal side-effects. The authors of a review published in
Wednesday’s issue of BMJ say it is important to understand weight regain given the risks of
diabetes and heart disease from carrying extra pounds.
