It will be a bit cooler, but the air quality may actually be worse on Thursday in Quinte. Environment Canada has cancelled the Heat Warning for the area, with cooler air making for a much cooler evening on Wednesday and a slightly lower high projected for Thursday (26 instead of 30 or higher). The Air Quality Warning has now been upgraded from yellow to orange, indicating that air quality may be even worse today than the previous two days.
More information is expected on Thursday about a hit and run that ended with an arrest in Belleville on Wednesday night. A two-vehicle collision happened on Moira Street West near Murney Street (and Wallbridge Crescent) around 7:30 pm. One of the vehicles continued for a short distance with the driver reportedly fleeing the scene on foot. Officials with Belleville Police say one person was taken into custody a short time later. There is no word yet on charges or the extent of injuries for the people in the other vehicle.
Quinte West OPP have arrested two individuals for creating traps intended to cause injury, when investigating a recent break and enter. On July 3, 2026, the OPP Community Street Crime Unit assisted by the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit attended a Parks Canada property on Subway Road, Trenton, to investigate a recent theft that had occurred in the Quinte West area. Police discovered trip wires that had been set up to deter individuals from entering the area, which were then safely disarmed and dismantled.
The City of Quinte West and its municipal workers have a new three-year contract . City Council voted this week to ratify the collective agreement with CUPE Local 799.3, following a successful union vote on Monday . The deal covers more than 145 inside and outside workers who will receive a nine per cent wage increase over the next three years. The contract also delivers enhanced health benefits and increased shift premiums for on-call duties . City officials say the agreement provides long-term stability while ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality local services.

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Trevor Zegras to a four-year, $36.5 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $9.125 million on Wednesday. Zegras, 25, finished second in scoring on the Philadelphia Flyers this season, recording 26 goals and 67 points in 81 games. He added two goals and six points in 10 playoff games before the Flyers were eliminated in the second round.
