In national news, complaints against the Canada Revenue Agency climbed sharply over the past year. According to the annual report by the Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson, the CRA received over 3,500 complaints during the 2025-26 fiscal year, a 27 per cent increase from the year before and the highest total in three years. Taxpayers continue to face long wait times when calling contact centres, delays in processing tax returns and adjustments, and difficulty getting clear answers. Taxpayers also alleged that the agency “did not adequately consider their individual circumstances” when it came to collections. The report also warns automation and artificial intelligence must be introduced carefully to avoid creating new barriers for vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities.

In international news, Prime Minister Mark Carney has backed the latest U.S. strikes on Iran, calling them an appropriate response to ceasefire violations. Carney made the remarks on his way into the NATO Summit in Ankara, where President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire with Iran over. Trump again bashed the western military alliance for not joining the U.S. and Israel in the war. European officials have said they have largely honoured their commitments to U.S. forces, despite not having been consulted about a conflict that roiled their economies. Carney also says he’s reminded Trump that NATO is a defensive alliance.

And, finally, in other international news, Israeli forces have expanded the parts of Gaza under their control well beyond the boundaries established in the October 2025 peace plan proposed by the U.S. The original line put Israel in control of a little more than half of Gaza. But Israel now controls approximately 60 per cent of the territory. Last month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to expand the zone to 70 per cent.
