EMS Calls Flat, Quinte News – Ambulance call volumes in Hastings County
appear to have reached their peak. Director of Emergency Services Carl Bowker
delivered the Chief’s Report to the Hastings County Emergency Services
Committee during yesterdays meeting. In that report, it was said that with the
volume of calls hitting a plateau, they are currently expecting call volumes for 2025
to be slightly lower than the total in 2024.
Some initiatives are also planned to further reduce emergency call volume. In
September, funding for homelessness outreach programs was received through
Homelessness Addictions Recovery and Treatment, freeing nearly $260,000 to be
reallocated to programs that reduce 911 calls and emergency room visits.
Those programs include the senior home visit program, remote patient monitoring,
supporting vaccination efforts for homebound individuals and wellness clinics at
social housing complexes.
Fentanyl Bust, CTV – A joint investigation between the Ontario Provincial Police
and the Windsor Police Service has resulted in the largest fentanyl seizure in OPP
history, according to authorities. The record-breaking amount of fentanyl seized
was 46 kilograms, which is estimated to be worth $6.5 million. A 25-year-old
Windsor, Ont. man, Nicholas Kong, is facing 27 charges, while a 28-year-old
Joshua Aguirre from Vancouver is facing 29 charges.
PHA Loses $20m Stock, CDN Press – The Public Health Agency of Canada lost
more than $20 million worth of pharmaceutical products from the national stockpile
this year because of what it calls a “temperature deviation.”
The figure was reported in the 2025 public accounts but Health Canada refuses to
say what was lost, citing national security implications.
In a statement, Health Canada says the line item refers to pharmaceutical
products such as vaccines held in the national emergency stockpile. The
statement says the losses will not compromise the stockpile’s capacity to respond
to public health events.
Ukraine, AP – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been grappling with
the fallout from a corruption scandal that has engulfed his administration. After
Zelenskyy’s justice and energy ministers quit yesterday amid the investigation into
alleged energy sector graft, the government fired the vice-president of
Energoatom, the state-owned nuclear power company believed by investigators to
be at the centre of the kickback scheme. The heads of Energoatom’s finance,
legal and procurement departments and a consultant to Energoatom’s president
were also dismissed, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said late yesterday. A Kyiv
court has begun hearing evidence from anti-corruption watchdogs whose 15-
month investigation, including 1,000 hours of wiretaps, has brought the detention
of five people and implicated another seven in the scheme that allegedly earned
about $100 million US. Tymur Mindich, a co-owner of Zelenskyy’s Kvartal 95
media production company, is the conspiracy’s suspected mastermind. His
whereabouts are unknown.
Bright* Pocket Sock, CNN – Apple has built its reputation on cutting-edge
devices and sleek design, but the company’s latest product is decidedly more low-
tech.
The iPhone Pocket is a knitted strap developed in conjunction with fashion
designer Issey Miyake, “born from the idea of creating an additional pocket,”.
Designed to fit any iPhone, the Pocket will be released tomorrow and will be
available in a range of colours. However, eyebrows have been raised by the hefty
price tag of what Apple says is a product “inspired by the concept of ‘a piece of
cloth,’” with the short Pocket set to cost US$150 and the long version $230.

December 10th back at the CAA Arena for a 7:00 p.m. start in their third meeting
of the season. The Senators will continue their three-game road trip in Utica this
Friday against the Comets at Adirondack Bank Center for a 7:15 p.m. start.

million extension. The deal carries an average annual value of $7.5 million. Pinto’s
new contract has a 10-team no-trade clause in years three and four.
