Belleville welcomed jolly St. Nick to town yesterday evening during their
annual Santa Claus parade. Crowds lined the streets to see the string of
festively decorated vehicles and performers as they made their way from
the old fairgrounds at Sidney Street to the parade’s end point at Herchimer
Avenue. Parade floats, clowns, a marching band, and more made their
way, with Santa Claus himself bringing up the rear. For parades closer to
home, Bloomfield will be holding their annual Friday evening parade on
November 28 th , and Picton will be holding their parade on Sunday,
November 30 th .
It’s big day for the Federal Liberals, and the country as a whole, as the
government faces a crucial confidence vote on its budget today. In a
Sunday interview with the CBC, government Whip Mark Gerretsen said his
government has reached out to all opposition parties to hear their budget
concerns and work toward gaining their support. If every single member of
Parliament were to vote today, the minority Liberals would need opposition
support to pass the budget and stave off an election. Gerretsen said he
doesn’t believe Canadians want an election, but that his party will be
prepared. Behind the scenes, Liberals are confident they can get through
the vote, but with the NDP due to vote last, it’s unclear what kind of
concessions will have to be made.
Turning to news south of the border, lawmakers seeking to force the
release of files related to the sex trafficking investigation into Jeffrey
Epstein are predicting a big win in the US House of Representatives this
week with a “deluge of Republicans” voting for their bill and bucking the
GOP leadership and President Donald Trump, who for months have
disparaged their effort. The bill would force the Justice Department to
release all files and communications related to Epstein, as well as any
information about the investigation into his death in federal prison.
Information about Epstein’s victims or ongoing federal investigations would
be allowed to be redacted. The vote comes at a time when new documents
are raising fresh questions about Epstein and his associates, including a
2019 email that Epstein wrote to a journalist that said Trump “knew about

the girls.” The White House has accused Democrats of selectively leaking
the emails to smear the Republican president.
