In local news, the County’s ongoing program to flush our sewers of junk continues next
week. From Monday to Friday, 7 Am to 6 PM crews will be working on Picton Main
Street between George Wright and Tim Hortons as well as along the Millennium Trail
from George Wright to Lake street
While sewer flushing is taking place, customers in the immediate area, including here at
the radio station, are asked to keep toilet seats closed on the first and basement levels
of dwellings. Splashing may occur intermittently as sewer mains are flushed.
Also Heavy equipment may limit visibility in the area of flushing and noise levels will be
elevated for the duration of work. Traffic Control will be in place where required.
FERRY
Also during the upcoming week, there will be some disruptions to the Glenora ferry
schedule. The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has informed the municipality that the
Glenora Ferry will be temporarily out of service following its 7:30 am departure from the
Glenora dock on Wednesday, November 26. Service will not resume until the following
Thursday afternoon at 5:00 PM.
The pause in service change is required for maintenance work at the Adolphustown
dock.
At the opposite end of the County, County Road 3 County will be reduced to one lane
between Taft Road and Loyalist Parkway from 7 am to 5 pm. Arborists will be
removing hazardous ash trees on County Road 3 as part of the County’s annual ash
tree removal program. Motorists are asked to approach the site with caution or
avoid the construction area.
WATER
Our local drought isn’t over but conditions are improving. Quinte Conservation have
reduced the region’s low water condition to Level 2. The region has been under a Level
3 condition, the most serious, since September.
Over the last several weeks the watershed that feeds our streams and wells low water
conditions have stabilized with a return of more seasonal rainfall amounts.
Anticipated rain over the rest of November will help improve drought conditions further.
Improving groundwater levels. While stream flows are improving, they remain well
below normal for this time of year.
Quinte Conservation continues to receive reports of isolated dry or depleted wells, but
many have started to recover.

CLIMATE
The COP30 climate summit is headed for a showdown today over the future of fossil
fuels after host Brazil dropped efforts from its proposed deal to develop a global plan to
shift away from oil, gas and coal.
A draft text for a deal for this year's UN climate summit, released before dawn this
morning, contained no reference to fossil fuels, dropping entirely a range of options on
the subject that had been included in an earlier version.
The issue has been one of the most contentious at the two-week conference of nearly
200 governments.
A group of more than 30 nations sent a letter to the COP30 presidency late on Thursday
saying they could not accept a deal that failed to include a commitment to develop a
roadmap to transition away from fossil fuels.
That has set the stage for a showdown in the final hours of the conference, which is
scheduled to end at 6 p.m. local time today. Previous COP summits have blown past
their deadlines before eventually reaching a compromise.
And finally, there is a new overcrowding problem in British Columbia’s lower Fraser
valley. Some 35,000 – 50,000 bald eagles migrate south to the Harrison River to feast
on spawning Salmon.
As lakes and rivers freeze over in the Yukon and Alaska, the eagles head south to feed.
The birds will be chillin’ in BC until February when they return north for breeding
season.

JUNIOR HOCKEY
In local junior hockey, the Wellington Dukes take to the ice tonight at 7:00 pm as the
North York Rangers come to town. The Dukes have turn their fortunes around of late as
they are riding a three game winning streak, moving up to fifth spot in the East
Conference.
On Sunday night, the Dukes head to Pickering to hunt down the Panthers. That game
can be heard live here on 99.3 County FM with play-by-play announcer Craig Foster.
The puck drops at 7:30.
The Picton Pirates also play tonight as the take the short hop to Napanee to battle the
Raiders. The Pirates and Raiders have the same number of points this season, though
Picton has played one less game
NHL
Over in the NHL, the Winnipeg Jets are the only Canadian team in action tonight. They
are at home to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Many Canadian fans will have their eyes glued to the Saturday battle in Montreal. The
Toronto Maple Leafs come the Bell Centre to see if they can string two wins in a row
together. The Canadien sit in third spot in the Atlantic Division while Toronto languishes
in 7 th place.
Other Canadian action sees the Edmonton Oilers travel to Florida to face the Panthers.
The Ottawa Senators are on the west coast against the San Jose Sharks. The Calgary
Flames are at home to the Dallas Stars.
F1
The Las Vegas strip will be louder and flashier than usual as F1 racing comes to town.
To accommodate the late night revellers and resident shows, all practices and the
race are held at night. Practices started last night and will conclude this evening along
with the ace qualifier.
The final practice session runs at 7:30 tonight. That will be followed by the race
qualifying session at 11:00 pm. The race itself goes Saturday night at 11:00 pm. So the
winner and perhaps closure of the drivers and contractors championship competitions
will not be known until the wee hours of Sunday.
