It’s budget day today. Finance Minister Francois-Phillipe Champagne began introducing the government’s much anticipated budget to the house at 4 pm. The Liberals have said the budget will transform the Canadian economy in response to significant global economic and security threats. Prime Minister Mark Carney has promised that the budget will usher in a new era by investing in growth outside the United States and significantly increasing the country’s defense capabilities. At the same time Carney has cautioned that sacrifices will need to be made in order to secure the future. Budget votes are considered confidence votes and the minority Liberals will have to convince a few of the MP’s from other parties to either abstain or vote with them or the country will face another election.
