Prince Edward County has been hit by a widespread internet outage. Municipal phone lines and services are affected but Fire and 911 services are operational and can still be contacted. The outage started this morning and has affected numerous businesses and organizations including County FM. Crews are reported to be working on restoring service but there is no information available yet on the cause of the disruption or when residents can expect services to be back to normal.
The County and surrounding area are also affected by a special weather statement today. Environment Canada is warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity into the evening. Localized flooding could occur and pooled water in low lying areas will combine with limited visibility to make driving difficult. I will have more information with the Weather report.

Two roller coasters at Canada’s Wonderland have been temporarily closed as part of a wider investigation by Six Flags into a fatal accident at their park in Georgia. The Behemoth and Leviathon have both been temporarily idled until the theme park giant can determine what went wrong in Georgia. One man was killed and several others were injured in the Six Flags roller coaster incident near Atlanta on Monday. La Ronde in Montreal was formerly owned by Six Flags and a spokesperson for La Ronde announced that the Goliath roller coaster in that park would be idled as well. In addition to the internal analysis by Six Flags, Cobb County Police have opened a criminal investigation into the Georgia incident.
Pope Leo XIV successfully underwent an operation to remove a nodule on his lung today, according to a vatican announcement this afternoon. The 71 year old pontiff will remain in hospital for a week while he recovers from the operation. According to medical authorities, the pope should be able to make a full recovery with complications unlikely. Doctors say 95% of lung nodules are benign so it is unlikely the Pope will need additional treatment for cancer. The Pope chose to have surgery this week in order not to delay an upcoming Latin American trip.
Former American Idol winner and popular singer songwriter Kelly Clarkson is feuding with a Brooklyn store over a mechanical parrot. Clarkson says she wanted the buy the wooden bird which had a price tag attached for $15,000. According to Clarkson, the store didn’t think she could afford it and treated her, in Clarkson’s words, like Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman” reffering to a scene in the movie where Roberts’ character is treated rudely by a snooty store clerk. The Art of Play in Brooklyn has countered that the bird was never for sale. The shop says Clarkson was offered a copy by the artist responsible for their bird or a similar alternative product both of which she declined. The internet has weighed in with some coming down on Clarkson’s side and others saying they have visited the store and while the bird did have a price tag, it was nailed to the wall and never for sale. If all publicity is good publicity, the store may not mind the sudden attention.
