THE COUNTY WRITES…THE COUNTY READS
Sunday, August 3, 2025
Giles Blunt, author of twelve novels including the award-winning John Cardinal series, returns to CWCR with Bad Juliet, a novel set in a tuberculosis sanitarium in the Adirondacks in 1915. A young tutor falls in love with a beautiful but enigmatic young woman, traumatized by her past aboard the Lusitania, a British ocean liner that was sunk by a German U-boat. It’s baseball season and Andrew Forbes reads excerpts from his earlier book The Utility of Boredom and discusses his latest, Field Work: On Baseball and Making a Living. This book of essays explores baseball’s rich history from the pioneers who built the early ballparks to minor-league players’ surprising part-time jobs to the parents who coach little league games.
