THE COUNTY  WRITES….THE COUNTY READS

Linwood Barclay returns with a supernatural chiller that Stephen King calls “terrific”. In Whistle, a woman and her young son move to a small town looking for a fresh start only to be haunted by disturbing events and strange visions when they find a mysterious train set in a storage shed. Because Linwood has said Whistle will do for trains what his best-seller Look Both Ways did for cars, hear a repeat of  the author’s interview about that book in which an experiment with self-driving cars takes a deadly turn. Linwood also talks about how his dad, a talented illustrator, influenced his love of cars.

SERVICES

Since December 2023 regions throughout Ontario have been transitioning their blue box program for their industrial, commercial and institution sector. Now it’s our turn in Quinte. As of July 17, 2025 these properties will no longer have their recyclables picked up by their municipalities and this is all part of putting the responsibility of producing plastics and other recyclable products to their producer. There’s a lot to be understood about this transition, so joining us in the studio to guide us through this is Shire Hall’s Supervisor of Environmental Services and Sustainability, Albert Paschkowiak.

CONSUMERISM

Scammers and hackers are continually getting more aggressive and deceptive while targeting our online devices.  Listen in to learn how to recognize the latest scams, what to do to protect yourself and what to do if you think you have been hacked or scammed when we speak with Adam Cavanaugh, Information Technology Specialist with the Prince Edward County Public Library and Archives.

THE COUNTY, NATURALLY

When it comes to habitat restoration, sometimes it’s easiest to let nature do the heavy lifting — whether it’s a one-rock dam in the American southwest, wolves in Yellowstone or simply a no-mow policy at Presqu’ile Provincial Park. Pamela Stagg looks at how the simplest way to restore a natural area is sometimes the best.
