In advance of their live performances supporting 99.3 County FM’s Radiothon 2025, three talented songwriters discuss making music and the inspiration for their work. David R. THE COUNTY GRAPEVINE

Mayor Steve Ferguson’s monthly report to residents includes strong mayor powers, asset management plan, revenue from MAT and more. The Chapel in Glenwood cemetery is in need of an estimated $2,000,000 to stabilize and repair the structure. Peter Lockyer of History Lives Here explains why Glenwood Chapel is ‘one of our greatest heritage treasures’ and worth saving. SERVICES 

Across the province the shortage of school bus drivers is getting more dire, which wreaks havoc for students and their families throughout the school year. Tri-board handles the transportation for 150 schools. Joining us in-studio is its Chief Executive Officer, Jeremy DaCosta, to talk about what the job of a school bus driver entails.  Also joining us from C. Smith Bus Lines are Sherry Barker, Branch Mansger at Switzer-Carty and Tammie Cherneskie, Operations Manager.  Listen in to learn how you, or someone you know, can apply. The job will start this September!

CONSUMERISM 

Olive, avocado, sesame, canola, and coconut are just some of the cooking oils we will talk about in studio with Chef and Nutritionist, Rachel Bies. In this month’s segment about nutrition, let’s learn about things like which oils are good and bad for our gut, why certain cooking oils shouldn’t be used on high heat, what refined oils are, and lots more. 

HEALTH & WELLNESS

How ever a person loses their job, it can be overwhelming and take a toll on one’s sense of self. Tess Singer of Feldman Daxon Partners Inc. will be in the studio to talk about what it is to be a Career Transition Consultant and Facilitator, and Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation whose purpose is to  help people through career transitions.

With the Strawberry Full Moon in the sky and little spots of red appearing in the garden, local strawberry season is upon us. This week on County Cooks, Chris Byrne jams on ways to use the local bounty.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

Pearl Hucul speaks with Keirra Reid, owner of County Feasts.    Located in downtown Wellington,  County Feasts offers healthy, ready-to-eat fresh and frozen meals including gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian dishes, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients sourced locally whenever possible.

THE COUNTY, NATURALLY

There are many myths about fishers. This small animal is supposed to kill cats and deer. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry was rumoured to have imported cougars into Ontario to kill fishers. “Not so fast,” says Jeff Bowman of the Ministry. He will chat with Pamela Stagg about the rather extreme myths and the reality of this weasel family member.

COUNTY GROWS

Brenda Hellyer of Hellyer Organics has greenhouses at 2252 County Rd. 7, Prince Edward County.  She grows melons, eggplants and zucchini, but what is most impressive is her 40 varieties of tomato plants — if Brenda does not have a tomato plant it is probably not available.

From Poland to Oshawa and back again! Alfie Latanski has brought the culture and history of his homeland in the form of a vibrant musical life that he shares with Renay Weissman-Stanners.

Cheryl Singer visits with painter Celia Sage at her studio in Picton.  Celia shares her love of oil paints and favourite tools.You will also learn that not graduating with an art degree does not preclude from becoming a successful artist. Follow your heart and it will lead you to fulfill your dreams.

Sunday, June 8th cheer on the County Kids of Steel Youth Triathlon!  Kids aged 3 to 17 can embrace an active lifestyle and challenge themselves in a fun and supportive environment.
